Tong Li is a professor for atomic-scale characterisation in the Institute for Materials at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany. She obtained her PhD in Materials Science at the University of Oxford. Before her current role, she was an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow at Max-Planck Institute for Ion Research in Germany and a post-doctoral research associate in the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis at the University of Sydney. Her research interest is synthesising and characterising high-performance oxide and metallic nanomaterials for sustainable energy conversion applications such as water splitting and fuel cells. Her current focus is to develop multimodal approaches combing atom probe tomography with X-ray-based spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and electrochemical testing to better understand the activity and stability of the electrocatalyst materials. She is also interested in investigating the nanoscale phase instability and phase transformation in Ti and high entropy alloys for aerospace applications.
