François Vurpillot (48 yrs) is Professor at the University of Rouen Normandie, and researcher in the « Groupe de Physique des Matériaux », CNRS laboratory. He is head of the scientific instrumentation department of the group. François Vurpillot did his PhD in Rouen and post-doctoral research in Oxford (Marie Curie Fellowship in the department of Materials, Oxford) on image formation with the APT instrument. François Vurpillot is a specialist in field emission and laser induced field emission. François Vurpillot is one of the world expert is the physical understanding of the image formation in APT. He contributed to the field by the development of several breakthrough modeling approaches. He also contributed to the development of several generations of Atom Probe Instruments. He authored or co-authored to more than 100 publications in the field and several books and book chapters. He was elected President of the International Field Emission Society in 2021.
